Feedback on the 2023 race

Many thanks to those who have taken the time to send us feedback; here are just a few comments from teams that took part in 2023:

EALING EAGLES RUNNING CLUB

Thank you so very much for another fantastic weekend of running through the beautiful Welsh countryside.  Our teams loved it as always.  We had a lot of WCR debutantes this year and they have all come away having had a wonderful experience, raring to go for next year.  Our old hands feel much the same!  "Flat (for Wales)" is one of our new favourite expressions!  Please pass on our heartfelt thanks to every member of your committee and all the LCRC volunteers who were out and about over the weekend marshalling and cheering.

Please pass our thanks onto Acute Medics - they helped two of our runners and were brilliant, as always - kind, efficient and professional; and our runners were very grateful for their assistance.

CLEVEDON AC

Many congratulations with pulling off another faultless Castles Relay - our 27th time of competing since 1990 and still the highlight of Clevedon AC's annual race calendar.

Your organising team took the ever-increasing challenge of logistics, roadworks, weather, motorists etc in their stride and delivered a first class event for 66 fantastic teams to enjoy - a massive task made to look easy!

On behalf of Clevedon AC please pass on our sincere thanks to everyone involved in the organisation this year, and in particular to your excellent medical team who did a fantastic job in challenging conditions.

We only hope we are fortunate enough to be on the start line again in 2024.

PORTHCAWL RUNNERS

I'd like to say a huge thank you from everyone at Porthcawl Runners for allowing us to compete at this year's Welsh Castles Relay.

We can only imagine the amount of effort that goes into organising the event and really appreciate that you allowed us in this year as one of the new teams.

It was fantastic to be able to introduce Porthcawl Runners to the event and they loved it.

WINCHESTER & DISTRICT AC

Wow!  Yet another well organised and highly successful WCR.

This was my 18th consecutive WCR and it has to be one of the best running events in the world with the camaraderie between the participating clubs second to none.

Congratulations to all the volunteers from Les Croupiers for all their hard work.

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY/DEFRA HARRIERS

As usual, the absolute best weekend - our team just had so much fun and the organisation was fabulous.  We had colleagues inspired to join a running club post WCR, some gaining huge amounts of confidence from taking part in such an exciting team event, friendships made and of course such awesome teamwork - within our own team but also across the whole WCR event!

Thanks so much again - everyone is already looking forward to next year.

HIGHGATE HARRIERS

Thanks to everyone who made it happen.

It was one of the best - if not the best - weekends of my "running life" and I know many of my team mates feel the same way.

We can't wait to come back to what is truly a one-of-a-kind special race.

BURGES SALMON

What a fantastic event!  Thank you again for putting on the best running event of the year.  It was seemless, as always and a joy to run.

We had more new runners this year who are already talking about the stage they want to do next year - that is just a real testament to what a show you all manage to put on.

As someone who organises logistics for our team, I know how hard it is to ferry two minibuses across the country.  However, that is nothing compared to what you all have to do each and every year.  Thank you for all your tireless work and organisation, it really means a great deal to the runners and the firm.  We have new recruits talking about it during their interviews and then running it in the same year!

BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH AC

We just wanted to say thank you for yet another fantastic weekend at Welsh Castles Relay - it always has been and always will be the biggest and best event on our calendar!

There is nothing else like it.

SERPENTINE RUNNING CLUB

What an amazing weekend running the Welsh Castles Relay.

It was great to share the sunshine and undulating roads of Wales with teams from all over parts of the UK.

Thanks to Les Croupiers Running Club for organising the event in the usual meticulous fashion and we look forward to coming back to Wales for the event in the future!

CAERLEON RUNNING CLUB

66 teams, running 209 miles from North to South Wales in a 20 stage staggered relay race.

Logistically the most challenging event of the running calendar but being able to go toe to toe with some of the biggest clubs in the UK was a huge honour.

Huge congratulations go to everyone who played a part in a fantastic weekend of racing.  An outstanding effort across the board.

We cannot wait until next year.

Club Safety Guidelines

The following advice is intended to keep our runners SAFE at all times!
It is also essential that, whilst out running as a club, we are seen to be polite, responsible, set a good example & not put others at risk.
AT ALL TIMES BE SAFE BE SEEN! You can never be too visible! During the day, always wear bright or light-coloured clothing - fluorescent is good.
At night we would strongly recommend that people ALWAYS wear light-coloured clothing plus a REFLECTIVE (not just fluorescent) bib or sash.
Clip on flashers are a great way to be seen. NEVER ASSUME YOU'VE BEEN SEEN. Always be cautious with traffic.
We would like to remind people that they are responsible for their own safety and that they run at their own risk.
