Profiles of some of the Club's Committee
Alan Mason is the Membership Secretary and he joined the club in 2004.
What he likes most about running is getting out into the open air and he runs on the Taff Trail often as he lives close by.
He’s raced all distances from 800m to marathons.
Besides running he enjoys cycling, reading and listening to music.
Name: David McDonald
Place of birth: York in God's Country
Favourite running distance: 5km
Favourite race/ event: London Marathon because of the range of emotions that taking part stirs within all of the competitors, mine particularly being love and admiration for the people that I have taken part with. Followed closely by the Barry 40/Marathon, both taking part and supporting; a perfect event rewarding hard work and dedication with camaraderie and an outpouring of support.
Interesting fact: I was an active Tae-Kwondo black belt until my ribs were broken in 3 places! Running is generally much safer although others may choose to disagree after a good XC or trail race!
Marcus Meyrick
Place of birth: Cardiff born and bred.
Favourite running distance: Half Marathons. Just hard enough to have to train for, not so hard you have to run 20 miles every Sunday!
Favourite race/ event: Snowdonia Marathon Eryri. I just love the long stretches of beautiful landscape where all you can hear are the slap of daps.. that and the hideous weather.
What you bring to the committee: A more modern approach to how we represent the Club to the outside world and an understanding that running is a social as well as a competitive sport and both are needed if a modern running club is to be successful.
Interesting fact: Until I was in my early 40's I weighed 20 stone, about 127kg in modern money. Running and cycling are the only of my mid-life crisis "hobbies" that have stuck.. Thank goodness!
David E Williams joined the club in 2009 and has run a huge variety of races on various terrains including the Grand to Grand Ultra and the Great Wall marathon.
Dave organises the annual trip for the South Wales running clubs to the London Marathon.
He’s one of the flying marshals for the Welsh Castles Relay having been trained in Traffic Management.
The following advice is intended to keep our runners SAFE at all times!
It is also essential that, whilst out running as a club, we are seen to be polite, responsible, set a good example & not put others at risk.
AT ALL TIMES BE SAFE BE SEEN! You can never be too visible! During the day, always wear bright or light-coloured clothing - fluorescent is good.
At night we would strongly recommend that people ALWAYS wear light-coloured clothing plus a REFLECTIVE (not just fluorescent) bib or sash.
Clip on flashers are a great way to be seen. NEVER ASSUME YOU'VE BEEN SEEN. Always be cautious with traffic.
We would like to remind people that they are responsible for their own safety and that they run at their own risk.
